My Story

Hi, my name is Sharon.

I am the person behind Mak&Arts.

For me art and design has always played an important role in my life. From drawing in early childhood  to going to art college and pursuing a degree in ceramics. Though pretty much all of my career since then has involved working with photography.

The idea for the company came about via two very separate things, technology and nature. In October 2025 I attended a talk at a local library given by a  company director on the subject of AI He had used this tool to help build a small independent company. I didn’t realise at the time, but it had planted a tiny seed in my head. If those tools are available and out there what would I want to create?

It came to me a couple of days later when I went for an early morning walk in the local park. There are quite a few creative people I know who make things in their spare time. And I’m sure there are many students and graduates too. A place online to buy handmade products did seem an illogical idea as there were so many online marketplaces out there already. How would I manage to compete against them?

I guess by being myself…It would definitely be one serious mountain to climb. Taking several long months of reading, learning, planning and occasionally shouting at the computer. Doing things I never imagined I could do, my idea began to slowly start to take shape.

My goal was to create a site specifically for handmade items, which would bring a community together consisting of those who appreciate unique things and the people who love making them. And here it is for you to explore.

Handcrafted by makers, discovered by you. Here is how it works...

Buyers

Each item on the site is made by hand, which often gives each piece a unique character and charm.

  • No mass-produced product lines
  • When a listing sells out, it may be restocked depending on the maker
  • You’re supporting independent artisans, not large corporations

Each maker handles their own shipping and sets their dispatch timeframe.

Track your order status anytime in your account

If you have any questions about your delivery, contact the maker directly

Individual makers set their own return policies, which are clearly stated on each listing.

  • If there are any unexpected issues message the maker first
  • We’re here to help mediate should you need further support resolving problems

Your seller profile is your chance to introduce yourself and share information about your work.

  • The seller bio will help buyers learn more about your unique story
  • Include a profile photo or your company logo if you have one

Great photos are essential for selling online. Take clear, well-lit photos of your handcrafted items.

  • Use good lighting – natural light or studio lighting both work well
  • Also include photos showing details and different angles if needed
  • A neutral non patterned background helps your work stand out

When someone purchases your work, you’ll receive a notification. Package the item carefully and ship it within your stated dispatch time.

  • Package items securely to prevent damage
  • Consider including tracking information where possible for buyer peace of mind
